Trey Richardson -  Former Guest Speaker at the Leadership Institute

Trey Richardson is managing partner of Sagac Public Affairs and GR Pro, national companies providing
communications, market research, fundraising, issue advocacy and management solutions to hundreds of political, non-profit and corporate organizations. Sagac is the leader in the political community for strategy and implementation of political action committee finance operations, while GR Pro focuses on state-based issue initiatives.

Known for his creativity, Trey has influenced the direction of political finance and issue advocacy activities throughout the United States for twenty-seven years. As managing partner of Sagac Public Affairs, Trey creates and implements finance, communications and market research for America’s top business political action committees and advocacy organizations. In fact, Sagac’s clients represent more than twenty-six percent of all federal qualified funds each election cycle. For GR Pro, he oversees national operations for state-based issue initiatives such as health care, as well as pension and education reform.

Prior to Sagac, Trey led the political operations for the National Association of Realtors (NAR), designing strategy and operations for the raising and distribution of all election-related funds. He also provided strategy and management services for the Association’s partisan communications and issue advocacy efforts. While at NAR, he grew the Realtors Political Action Committee from a top 20 PAC to the largest political action committee in the nation. Preceding his national work for the Realtors, he served as vice president of government relations for both the Oklahoma Association of Realtors and the Orlando Regional Realtors Association.

Trey began his career in the political division of the Oklahoma Republican Committee in 1986 under Congressman and then-Chairman Tom Cole, where he served as assistant political director implementing special elections. From there, he went on to act as field representative in 1988 to Oklahoma’s 3rd District congressional campaign and organizational director to Oklahoma’s 1990 gubernatorial race. After leaving the Realtors in 1999, he continued his political career path to the 2000 Bush/Cheney Presidential campaign and the Republican National Committee where his firm, eContributor, raised and managed online fundraising activities for the efforts. He is a veteran Presidential fundraiser having worked not only for George W. Bush, but also for John McCain, Mitt Romney and Steve Forbes. He has also led finance teams for congressional and gubernatorial candidates such as U.S. Senator Jim Inhofe, Oklahoma Governor Mary Fallin and U.S. Representatives James Lankford, Tom Cole, Frank Lucas, J.C. Watts and Ernest Istook.

Trey’s firm has been recognized with twenty Pollie Awards from the American Association of Political Consultants (AAPC) in the last three years for candidate and PAC fundraising and rebranding campaigns.

Trey has been named as one of the “Top Political Action Leaders in America” by industry publications and has received numerous awards for association and government affairs programming by the American Society of Association Executives. He has served in various leadership positions for the National Association of Business Political Action Committees (to which he continues to serve as consultant), Association of Fundraising Professionals and American Society of Association Executives. Trey has considerable experience in dealing with the media having appeared on CNN, CNNfn, MSNBC and Fox. He is a highly quoted source on finance, politics, compliance and technology for hundreds of news outlets, including the Wall Street Journal, Washington Post, Washington Times, Roll Call, The Hill, Financial Times and New York Times. He has published numerous articles, research and whitepapers on politics, fundraising and Constitutional issues.

Trey is a graduate of the University of Oklahoma with a bachelor degree in political science with an emphasis in journalism and history. He and his wife Jeri, who is a partner in both firms, reside in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma with their two children. They travel frequently between the Oklahoma City and Washington, DC offices of the firms.
