Anna Hanger DeJarnette

Anna Hanger DeJarnette is Director of Partnerships at the Leadership Institute, where she cultivates strategic philanthropic partnerships that advance the Institute’s mission of identifying, recruiting, training, and placing conservative leaders.

A development executive with nearly two decades of experience, Anna has helped secure more than $70 million in current and deferred charitable commitments for organizations advancing free markets, limited government, individual liberty, and America’s founding principles. Her expertise spans every facet of nonprofit development, including major gifts, planned giving, annual giving, foundation relations, capital campaigns, donor stewardship, and strategic fundraising leadership.

Widely recognized for her expertise in planned giving, Anna has established planned giving programs and legacy societies at multiple national organizations and has successfully led fundraising programs at organizations ranging from $2 million nonprofits to overseeing planned giving for an organization with an annual budget exceeding $90 million. Throughout her career, she has partnered with philanthropists, foundations, and organizational leaders to build lasting relationships that strengthen mission-driven organizations for generations to come.

Before returning to the Leadership Institute, Anna served as Director of Development at The Heartland Institute. She previously held development leadership positions at The Heritage Foundation, Family Research Council, and Summit Ministries. She also served as Acting Director and Deputy Director of Programs and Outreach in the Office of the Attorney General of Virginia, where she was a member of the executive leadership team and led statewide outreach and strategic partnership initiatives.

Anna’s relationship with the Leadership Institute began early in her career when she served as a Planned Giving Officer. She later returned as faculty for the Institute’s Major Gifts Fundraising School, where she trained nonprofit executives and development professionals in the principles and practice of successful major gifts fundraising. Returning to the Institute is a full-circle opportunity to invest in the next generation of conservative leaders and the organizations that equip them to make a lasting impact.

She earned a Bachelor of Arts in Political Communication, summa cum laude, from Bryan College.

A lifelong soccer player, Anna lives in Richmond, Virginia, with her two sons, who keep her active and on the sidelines of the soccer field as much as they do at home.
