Mark Pfeifle

President and CEO, Off the Record Strategies

About Your Faculty 


Before founding Off the Record Strategies, Mark Pfeifle served at the White House as Deputy Assistant to the President and Deputy National Security Advisor for Strategic Communication and Global Outreach.  

 

In those capacities, he honed his crisis management skills during the successful communication efforts to promote the “surge” of U.S. forces into Iraq and in developing initiatives to de-legitimize al Qaeda. He witnessed Al Qaeda’s violence first-hand as one of the first presidential advisors sent to New York by the White House in the wake of the attacks on September 11, 2001. 

 

As the lead crisis strategist, press secretary and communications director for at the U.S. Department of Interior at the U.S. Department of Treasury, he sharpened his expertise in planning and successfully executing high-impact policies and strategies. 

 

In the private sector, he led strategic initiatives for the National Sheriffs’ Association, the U.S. Space Command, the U.S. Homeland Security Department’s S&T Human Factor Division and U.S. Central Command. He has led training and crisis management seminars for the U.S. Marine Corps, business groups, law enforcement offices, international organizations and foreign governments. He was the deputy communications director at the Republican National Committee in 2000 and was director of communications at the 2004 RNC Convention in New York City.  

 

He has led seminars and panel discussions at University of Melbourne, University of Essex, Tokyo University and the American Center in Japan, in 2018; Daniel Morgan Graduate School of National Security, The Henry Jackson Society at Westminster Palace in 2017; Oxford Union Society in 2012; and Kellogg School of Management at Northwestern University in 2011. 

 

He has frequently appeared on national networks including CBS News, BBC, MSNBC, Al Jazeera, CNN and Fox News. His commentaries have appeared in TIME, Wall Street Journal, Foreign Policy and Christian Science Monitor. 

 

He is a recipient of the Edward R. Murrow Award for radio news reporting, the “Polly” Award for Best Overall Internet Strategy Campaign and has received the US Army’s Outstanding Civilian Service Award.
