Dr. Derek McAllister is a member of the Faculty of Philosophy at Towson University in Baltimore, Maryland. He earned his Ph.D. in Philosophy from Baylor University in 2020, along with two master’s degrees in Philosophy from the University of Arkansas and Talbot School of Theology. He completed his undergraduate studies in Philosophy at the University of Central Arkansas.
Dr. McAllister is a former Templeton Foundation grant recipient, where he completed cross-training in psychology and neuroscience. His doctoral research focused on the conceptual history of depression and mental illness. He has published peer-reviewed articles and book chapters on topics including bioethics, depression, pedagogy, and divine hiddenness.
In recent years, his work has centered on ethics, virtue, meta-ethics, particularly moral relativism and atheism. Through his YouTube channel, @TheDrDerek, which has garnered over 500,000 views in under a year, he brings academic rigor into the public square.
Dr. McAllister also serves as a founding board member of the Mother Teresa Institute in Washington, D.C. His work has been featured by Catholic World Report, Catholic News Agency, Catholic Review, and others. Originally from Fort Smith, Arkansas, he is married and has one son.
