Alex Mooney

Alex Mooney serves as chairman of the Maryland Republican Party and executive director at The National Journalism Center. Alex was elected in 1998 as the youngest and only Hispanic member of the Maryland State Senate, where he served the 3rd district from 1999 to 2010.
 
While in office, Alex worked as a member of the Judicial Proceedings Committee, the Joint Committee on Investigation, the Joint Committee on Federal Relations, and the Education, Health and Environmental Affairs Committee. He served on the Maryland Rural Caucus, the Taxpayers Protection Caucus, and the Maryland Veterans Caucus.
 
Alex received the Maryland Taxpayer of the Year award in 2000, the National Hero of the Taxpayer Award for 2003, and the top business rating in the state by the Maryland Business for Responsive Government.
 
Formerly, Alex was a staff assistant to Rep. Roscoe Bartlett and as a legislative analyst for the House Republican Conference Committee under Congressman John Boehner.
 
Alex graduated from Dartmouth College in 1993 with a degree in philosophy. As a lifelong resident, Alex currently resides with his wife Dr. Grace Gonzalez Mooney and their two children in Frederick.
