Cemetery of the Innocents

Pro-Life students looking for an activity to represent their point of view on campus can host a Cemetery of the Innocents on thei campus.  This display of a graveyard serves as a striking reminder that abortion is the act of killing an unborn human being.

The Cemetery of the Innocents dispels common misconceptions and myths about abortion. The many crosses in the display are designed with facts about abortion and pre-birth human development. But even to the passerby who doesn't stop to contemplate in detail, the impression is substantial.

Just using the symbol of a grave and the act of memoriam in a discussion about abortion is new to some students. Many may have never known that over 45 million people have been killed by abortion in the United States since the 1970s, or may have never thought of the unborn as people at all.

Of course, it's always important to have some club members attending to the display throughout the day of this event.

Personal feelings will run high, both for and against. College students are not strangers to the abortion issue when it comes to their personal lives and experiences, and it always helps to have some people who can channel discussion and be available to students who may need assistance, guidance, or simply more information about the subject.

Unfortunately, there have been times when insensitive students from the left have defaced Cemetery of the Innocents exhibits. Having a video camera available for your club is essential to documenting these kinds of abuses and holding your opponents accountable.

Students for Life of American has a great step-by-step guide on how to run a Cemetery of the Innocents on your campus.
