Sally Canfield -  Former Guest Speaker at the Leadership Institute

Sally Canfield joins the Bush Institute as Director of Global Health, based in at the Institute's offices in Washington, DC. In this role, Sally provides strategic development and implementation of our public-private partnership with the President’s Emergency Plan for AIDS Relief (PEPFAR), the Partnership to End AIDS and Cervical Cancer, as well as the Bush Institute’s broader efforts and relationships in global health.

Sally brings almost 18 years of experience in the policy, non-profit, and political worlds. Most recently she was Senior Director for government relations at The ONE Campaign, a campaign and advocacy organization of more than 8 million people around the world that works to end extreme poverty, especially in Africa. Additionally, she worked as Deputy Chief of Staff to Senator Marco Rubio of Florida and as a senior director at the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation. A veteran of the Bush Cheney 2000 campaign where she was Domestic Policy Advisor, she also held various roles throughout the Executive Branch, including as a founding member of the Department of Homeland Security. In her personal capacity, she sits on the board of The People’s Portfolio, nonprofit organization that uses multi-media storytelling, led by artist Platon, to document humanitarian efforts around the globe and to humanize important statistics.

In her spare time, she loves to travel, especially internationally -- the more out of the way the better. The youngest of 7 children, she developed a lifelong love for reading after being sent to her room too many times because of arguing with her sister.
