On Tuesday, February 23, 2010, the Leadership Institute will unveil a brand new training. The Grant Writing Workshop, hosted by LI's Department of Political Training, will teach the keys to successful grant writing including how to write an executive summary, how to format a grant, and how to find the right grantor for the right cause. Over One Hundred Students Trained in Arkansas
Over 100 conservative activists, including 21 candidates, gathered in Fayetteville, Arkansas on Saturday, January 23, 2010 to learn the fundamentals needed to get a jump-start on their competition this campaign season. Craig Amabile, a young conservative from Clarksville, Tennessee, caravanned with a few friends for nine hours just to attend the Leadership Institute training. “If you follow the steps and advice from the campaign school, you will find yourself involved in a successful campaign!” said Amabile.

Leadership Institute-trained freedom fighters gather in Washington, DC
Conservatives from nearly a dozen countries arrived in Washington, DC this week to learn how to effectively defeat the radical Left. Travelling from as far away as Ghana, Venezuela, and the Netherlands, these students attended the Leadership Institute's International Seminar, a power-packed training which gives foreign conservatives an opportunity to learn from their American counterparts. Over the course of a week, students learn how to effectively utilize the internet, television, and traditional grassroots networking to advance conservative candidates and causes. For over thirty years the Leadership Institute has worked with conservative leaders around the world to help increase the number and effectiveness of activists dedicated to limited government and personal responsibility. January's training kicks off what promises to be an excellent year for the Leadership Institute, with several additional International Seminars scheduled throughout the year. International Students Learn On-Camera TV Techniques
On Tuesday, January 19, 2010, the Leadership Institute's Department of Communications Training organized a one-day On-Camera Television Workshop in conjunction with the International Leadership Training Seminar. Political activists and future candidates from 5 different countries gained valuable experience answering difficult questions in front of the television cameras and under the bright lights of the Leadership Institute Studios. The studios at the Leadership Institute give conservatives a safe environment to shape their message and polish delivery techniques. LI helps college students prepare for a semester in DC
On Monday, January 18, 2010, LI staff spoke to a group of Cedarville University students and faculty about internship opportunities and job search strategy at an informational meeting for the university's Semester in DC program. At the meeting Leadership Institute staff promoted LI training, the internship program, and the employment placement program. Directly following the informational gathering, LI hosted a 'Navigating DC: Finding your Dream Job' workshop for students seriously considering a semester in DC. As Cedarville prepares for its second annual Semester in DC in the fall, LI staff look forward to training Cedarville students both in DC and on the Ohio campus in 2010.

LI Holds First Comprehensive Internet Activist School of 2010
On Wednesday, January 20, 2010, the Leadership Institute's Department of Political Training organized a one-day Comprehensive Internet Activist School in conjunction with the International Leadership Training Seminar. Participants learned how to create and implement a successful online strategy through social networking, blogging, online video, expanding email lists, protecting online identity, and search engine optimization. The school not only trains students how to use internet activism utilities but more importantly how to think strategically when implementing online activism.

The Eric Breindel Collegiate Journalism Award Offers $10,000 Cash Prize
The Eric Breindel Memorial Foundation is pleased to announce that applications for the “2010 Eric Breindel Collegiate Journalism Award,” the nationwide undergraduate competition whose winning prize is unmatched by any institution in the country, are now being accepted. The winner will secure the following awards: A cash prize of $10,000 A paid internship of his or her choice at Fox News Channel, The Wall Street Journal or the New York Post Residential housing in New York City, if necessary. The Eric Breindel Memorial Foundation will present the award to the undergraduate columnist, editorialist or reporter whose work best reflects the spirit of the writings by Eric Breindel: Love of country and its democratic institutions as well as the act of bearing witness to the evils of totalitarianism. Those who wish to be considered should submit no more than two editorials, columns or news stories, per person, written in the 2009-2010 academic year. Articles specifically produced for and published by an established newspaper or magazine web site will be accepted as well as internet exclusive material. All rules governing submissions appear on the attached page. A confidential panel of judges appointed by the Foundation will judge the entries. The winner will be announced in June 2010.

The Virginia Liberty Project and its co-sponsors (including the Leadership Institute) welcome Dr. Walter E. Williams as their guest speaker in a celebration of American Free Enterprise. This event will take place on Tuesday, January 19, 2010 at the Waterford Fair Oaks Mall from 6:00-9:00 pm. Admission is free, but seating is limited, so register now. Dr. Williams is an author, columnist, noted professor of economics and frequent guest host for the Rush Limbaugh Show. Final 2009 Grassroots Training Weathers the Storm in Indiana
Despite Al Gore's promise of Global Warming, the most wretched Christmas weather in recent memory wreaked havoc on LI's northern Indiana training on December 28-30, 2009. In defiance of the constant snow and bone-chilling temperatures, 30 patriots braved the arctic weather in South Bend and participated in a marathon three-day Activist School, one of LI's longest training schools. Some attendees even complained that the school was too short!

Twenty-five students attended the Public Speaking Workshop on December 18, 2009 at the Leadership Institute. During the day-long workshop, distinguished faculty member Dr. John Shosky instructed students on how to organize, build, and deliver an effective speech. This workshop wraps up the 2009 class schedule in the Leadership Institute's Arlington facility. Youth Leadership School trains 1,000 for second year in LI history
On the weekend of December 12-13, the Leadership Institute held its final Youth Leadership School (YLS) of 2009 in Laramie, Wyoming. This marks the end of another record-breaking year for the YLS Department. Over 1,000 students were trained, making 2009 just the second year in LI history that number of youth activists have been trained to campaign for the candidate or cause of their choice. Representative Eric Cantor honors Morton Blackwell in Congress
On Tuesday, December 1, 2009, Virginia Congressman Eric Cantor honored Leadership Institute president Morton Blackwell in the United States House of Representatives. Mr. Cantor called Morton "a true champion of the conservative movement" who has "dedicated his adult life to serving on the front lines of all the major battles in our nation to ensure that faith, family, and freedom always prevail." Koch Foundation funds scholarships at National University of La Jolla
National University of La Jolla, CA is proud to announce a limited number of scholarships for three online, undergraduate courses that focus on free-market economics and the philosophical foundations of capitalism. These scholarships are being funded by a grant from the Charles G. Koch Charitable Foundation. The scholarships cover the full tuition for the courses plus the application fee to NU. These courses can be taken from anywhere in the world, as long as one has access to the internet. They incorporate live chat sessions in which the professor and students interact in a virtual classroom, much as they would in a traditional classroom. Through the week of December 7-11, 2009, the Leadership Institute trained over 110 future campaign staffers, managers, and candidates during a record-breaking Campaign Manager School. Youth Leadership School trains over eighty students
Eighty-two students were trained on December 5-6, 2009 at the Leadership Institute's flagship Youth Leadership School (YLS). It was the largest December YLS in the Institute's 30-year history. Students representing Young Americans for Freedom, Youth for Western Civilization, Young America's Foundation, College Republicans, Generation Joshua, and Young Americans for Liberty attended the two-day intensive training designed to teach young people to organize large numbers of conservative students. The YLS division will wrap up 2009 in Laramie, WY this weekend (December 12-13). This school will mark the second consecutive year the YLS has trained 1000 students in a year (only the second time in LI history).
