John Paul DeGance -  Former Guest Speaker at the Leadership Institute

J. P. De Gance is the founder and president of the Culture of Freedom Initiative, a nonprofit organization focused on shifting the social and cultural norms that give rise to human flourishing and a free society. The organization was founded in 2017 but began back in 2014 as a project of the Philanthropy Roundtable, where J.P. recently served as the executive vice president. The initiative raised and spent more than $25 million over 4 years to identify and test innovative approaches to boost family stability and church engagement on a city-wide scale in three experimental cities. Today, the organization is replicating the successes of its three-city experiment into new communities.

Previously J. P. oversaw all development and fundraising as vice president of external affairs at Americans for Prosperity and Americans for Prosperity Foundation. The combined organizations grew from $35 million in annual revenues to more than $120 million during his tenure. Before joining AFP and AFPF, he was a senior member of the special projects team at Koch Companies Public Sector, developing and executing public policy strategies to protect and advance economic freedom. J.P. began his career in development at the Leadership Institute in 2002 working as Morton’s Director of Planned Giving where he more than doubled the number of planned givers from 142 to 289 and more than tripled gift annuity revenues in 2005 from the previously highest revenue year (1997).
