Bill Meierling -  Former Guest Speaker at the Leadership Institute

Bill Meierling is Chief Marketing Officer and Executive Vice President of External Relations and Strategic Partnerships for the American Legislative Exchange Council. He provides campaign strategy and oversight and serves as a senior counselor on Public Affairs issues for ALEC leadership, staff, policy experts and members. Bill has devoted his career to public-private partnerships that create opportunity absent government involvement. From ALEC to United Way Worldwide, Bill has worked at the intersection of the nonprofit community and entrepreneurs who come together with a focus on shared value creation.

Bill came to ALEC from United Way Worldwide, where he served as the Director of Public Relations for the 41-country nonprofit network. His commitment to the world’s largest privately funded nonprofit and to ALEC are one-and-the-same: The free market and the private sector working together with nonprofits can do anything and everything better than the government working alone.

Prior to United Way, Bill worked on multicultural engagement issues for Edelman clients including Walmart Stores, Inc., the American Petroleum Institute and Consumer Healthcare Products Association. A veteran political campaigner, Bill has worked on political campaigns across the United States, Latin America and Sub-Saharan Africa.

Bill is a lecturer on state government affairs, crisis and issue management, and multicultural engagement at the George Washington University Graduate School of Political Management in Washington, D.C.

When not advancing free markets, Bill spends time in his victory garden where he grows 11 types of tomatoes, cucumbers for pickling and any number of other herbs and vegetables. He is also often found next to his Weber Bullet smoking pork shoulder or house-cured bacon.
