Laura Keehner Rigas is the Communications Director for the Massachusetts Secretary of Education, and is responsible for early education, K-12, and higher education in Massachusetts. As an appointee for Governor Charlie Baker, her focus is ensuring that all Massachusetts students not only remain at the head of the class nationally, but are positioned to successfully compete internationally and to realize the American Dream.
Before moving back to Massachusetts, Rigas joined Wise Public Affairs as the Vice President of Strategic Communications in February 2014. Most recently, as National Communications Director of the American Conservative Union and its Conservative Political Action Conference (CPAC), Rigas oversaw all communications and marketing efforts for America’s oldest and largest grassroots conservative organization.
As the former Press Secretary for the U.S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS), Rigas served as the chief spokesperson for Secretary Michael Chertoff and managed all national and international media and press contacts for the department and its numerous agencies. Formerly she was Vice President for Communications at Business Executives for National Security and also helped with several statewide Republican campaigns in Massachusetts.
Prior to her position at DHS she served as Deputy Associate Director at the White House and senior advisor at the U.S. Department of Justice. Before spending more than six years in the George W. Bush administration, Rigas was the first Government Liaison at the American Enterprise Institute for Public Policy Research.
A California native, Rigas earned her Bachelor’s degree in public policy from the College of William and Mary and her Master’s degree in public administration at the Harvard Kennedy School. She is a former board member and of the Junior League of Washington and is an instructor at the Leadership Institute. She and her husband, Michael J. Rigas, live in Massachusetts.
